Insulin
In 1922 a ground-breaking treatment was discovered for diabetes - insulin. Ontario Doctor, Sir Fredrick Banting, was credited heavily for its discovery. Banting had come up with the idea to isolate insulin from dogs' pancreas and inject it into humans. This brilliant idea was a success, earning Banting and his partner J.J.R. Macleod a Nobel Prize, knighting and $40 000 dollars which Banting shared with his colleage, Charles Best. This discovery saved thousands of lives and is still used today to treat diabetes!
